Thank you to all the women who participated in our discussion of Esther. We discussed how the world might be viewing our relationship to Jesus. We are called the Bride of Christ - do we honor and respect our Bridegroom? Does the world see the reverence we have for Jesus?
When the Lord ask something of us - how do we respond? We also discussed the importance of prayer and fasting. Seeking and waiting upon the Lord. Esther had called for three days of prayer and fasting. She did not do this alone but asked that they all join her in this time of fasting and prayer. On the third day Esther went to see the king.
Is it right to disobey the law? Both Mordecai and Esther had disobeyed the law of the king.
The king:
When the king was told about the plot to kill him his response was to investigate the truth of the accusation and then hang the plotters. Mordecai role was written in the book of chronicles.
When Haman approached the king to request the death of the Jews the king responded by giving Haman the authority to do so...there was not an investigation about the truth of the accusation.
The king sought counsel on what to do when deciding the fate of Vashti...
The king gave Mordecai authority over what to do about those who would kill them...
Haman
Haman had great riches, power and position and yet it all meant nothing to him because Mordecai would not bow to him.
Haman sought not only to kill Mordecai but all the Jews...
Haman automatically believed that he would be the one whom the king chose to honor...
Mordecai
Took care of Esther as his own
Counseled Esther
Esther
Humble
Submissive, respectful and obedient to Mordecai
Submissive and respectful to the king
Found favor with others
Mordecai with the kings authority wrote that the Jews could defend themselves against their enemies. Then because of the position and authority the king had given Mordecai, many feared the Jews and some because of that fear had joined with the Jews. Several of the women shared that because of our position in Christ we also have that authority to defend ourselves against the enemy of our souls. That we are to do spiritual warfare. That we should know that it is because of our position in Christ Jesus that we have such authority and that it is also because of that position that the enemy fears us. It is not by might, nor by power but by his spirit.
This discussion is open to all. Looking forward to everyone's comment.
